Ribbon-bearing trees in Davao

DAVAO. Several trees along Dacudao Avenue now bear ribbons, markers that these are the trees the Davao City Drainage Maintenance Unit insists must be cut down because it prevents them from cleaning the canal, and now has another reason -- some trees have wounds or are termite-infested. DMU chief Yusop Jimlani has been insistent of chopping down the trees even after Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte says the trees stay. Jimlani says they are just waiting for the permission from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. (Seth delos Reyes)
